What is it?

The Train the Facilitator programme is designed to support the key contacts of children and young people to plan, implement, maintain and deliver peer listening/peer mentoring or MH Ambassador programmes in education, community and youth settings.

Learning Outcomes

  • To equip program coordinators with information to plan and implement effective cross-age peer mentoring programs for young people in your organisation.
  • To gain a general understanding of Mental Health Awareness; including aspects of trauma, emotional wellbeing and resilience.
  • To gain an understanding of what peer mentoring is and why it is important.
  • To ensure programme coordinators feel confident implementing a peer mentoring programme within their organisation.
  • To acquire knowledge of the importance of safeguarding and support sessions in terms of the programme as a whole.

Sessions

  • 1 half day to include safeguarding and child protection, qualities of a MHA/peer listener/peer mentor, programme content and format for each group (To ensure that the programme can be delivered by the trained person/persons in the future)
  • Training in appropriate First Aid for Mental Health (MHFA), on a cross-community basis, for key contacts of C&YP ( 2 full days or 4 half days )
  • Participation and observation of delivery of the programme to your group of C&YP, approx. 1/1.5 hr per week accros 4 -6 weeks.
  • Training in appropriate suicide accredited intervention skills (limited spaces available)
  • Shared learning and cross community delivery bringing key contacts of C&YP together to explore impact of trauma related conflict and peace building, share learning from provision of peer mentor programmes.
